Soft X-ray Solar Astronomy
Soft X-ray imagers provide solar physicists with important data for
understanding the complex mechanisms at work in the sun. Bauer was
involved in the fabrication, metrology, and performance prediction of the
telescopes for the very successful YOHKOH Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT) and
the new Soft X-ray Imager (SXI) for GOES.
This solar x-ray image is from the Yohkoh mission of ISAS, Japan. The
x-ray telescope was prepared by the Lockheed Palo Alto Research
Laboratory, the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan, and the
University of Tokyo with the support of NASA and ISAS.
